Proper Leather Care and Maintenance from The Experts
Almost all leather is extremely durable and can resist most stains, so it shouldn't require very much maintenance. But, like any other material, damaging mistakes can still be made without the right knowledge. That’s why we’re here from The Steam Team to explain how to properly care for and maintain your leather, including the use of our very own leather cleaning service.
Steam Team Leather Cleaning
For leather to remain in good condition and stay soft and flexible, it must periodically have all dirt and grime removed. Once clean, oil should be applied about once each year. Here at The Steam Team, we offer a leather cleaning service that does just that! Our leather technicians will be able to clean and replenish your leather with the proper equipment and oils in no time.
Everyday Maintenance
As long as your leather is oiled to keep its good condition, maintaining it day-to-day is very easy. In most cases, all you’ll need to keep it clean is a dry cloth. If anything spills on the leather, wipe it up immediately to avoid any damage to the protective finish. We also strongly advise against the use of any standard cleaner on the leather, since they aren’t designed specifically for leather and may cause damage to the material. It’s also recommended to keep your leather out of sunlight or away from any heat sources, as they may cause the leather to dry out and fade over time.
Different Types of Leather
There are multiple different finishes of leather, each requiring slightly different care, as listed below.
Mushroom- Avoid using water since mushroom leather has no protective film. Instead, lightly brush the leather with soft wool fabric.
Suede- Use a soft nylon brush or lightweight sandpaper to remove stains from this leather.
Hair-On- This leather can be gently vacuumed or dusted with a dry cloth.
Full Grain- Use a lightly damp cloth with warm water and don’t scrub heavily.
