The Best Tips for Caring for Furniture
Furniture looks wonderful in our homes and offices, and it can last a long time if treated and cared for properly. If you’ve recently purchased leather upholstered furniture and you’re a bit lost when it comes to caring for it, you’re in luck! Because today we have a few great tips for cleaning, conditioning, and caring for your leather upholstery. We hope they’re helpful!
Dusting
It’s important to keep your leather furniture clean, so every couple of weeks, use a clean, white cloth to dust your furniture. A light colored cloth will help you determine how dirty the leather is. To clean off accumulated dirt use a slightly damp cloth, but first, do a test run in an inconspicuous area on the furniture- just in case the leather absorbs the moisture. It’s also important to blot spills, instead of rubbing them; we don’t want to spread the moisture around!
Conditioning
Use a leather conditioner every six months to one year. Like our skin, leather can dry out easily and needs to be conditioned periodically! You can purchase specially formulated conditioners- but first check your furniture’s label for important instructions!
What NOT To Do
There are certain things we shouldn’t do when it comes to caring for leather furniture. For example, we shouldn’t use harsh cleaning solutions, ammonia, or detergents. We also should avoid using sharp objects near leather, as it tends to scratch easily! Arts and crafts should stay at the table, not on the couch. It’s also wise to avoid placing printed materials on leather; it absorbs the dyes too easily!
